Abstract: This article aims to present the main results obtained from evidences found over a Masters Degree research whose title is The book: object of study and memory of reading. The work was developed in the Faculty of Education of UNICAMP, which is related to the research group ALLE (Literacy, Reading and Writing). The text highlights elements that are found in the action of keeping the book for a long time. The article was thought so as to encompass the understanding of the relationship between the reader and reading, considering the book materiality as a triggering point for this relationship. On highlighting the different ways for using and care that accompanied the act to preserve the printing, it was possible to perceive – throughout testimonials of reading experiences – that the book can mean more than a simple object. The book gets palpability over this research, bringing revealing marks of a reading operation that is significant for the reader given its materiality.
