Tamanho ótimo de parcela para experimentos com mudas de café Catuai Amarelo 2SL

Abstract

The present study aimed to estimate the optimal size for testing coffee seedlings of the Yellow Catuai (2SL) cultivar. The experiment was conducted at the Machado Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology in the south of Minas Gerais. The plants were arranged in a grid of twenty-two by twenty-two plants, giving a total of 484 seedlings. During measuring, seedlings from outside the grid were excluded, so creating a border. When the seedlings had completed six pairs of leaves, an evaluation was carried out of the following growth characteristics: leaf area, number of true leaves, shoot height, root length, stem diameter, fresh weight of shoots, fresh weight of roots of seedlings, total fresh mass, dry mass of roots, shoot dry weight and total dry mass. Average variation coefficient was calculated for each of these groups. It was found that a plot size of nine plants per plot was ideal for the growth of Yellow Catuai (2SL) seedlings for the growth characteristics evaluated in the present study
