The data were collected through questionnaires addressed to the metallurgical companies of Minas Gerais and of literature revision. The results showed that the metallurgical companies are installed close to the iron ore mines and in places with infrastructure for delivering and transporting  the production; Sete Lagoas is the bigger producer of pig-iron of Minas Gerais; the metallurgical companies of  the state are located  in  urban areas; the state of Minas Gerais concentrate a large number of blast furnaces used for  charcoal production in the country; they are all producers of charcoal, but most of the used charcoal is bought in the market; they  prefer to use charcoal with r density superior to 240 kilograms per cubic meter; charcoal  humidity lower than 8%; average granulometry around 40 millimeters; low granulometry charcoal between 10 and 17%; ashes content  between 1,0 and 2.0%; fixed carbon between 75 and 80%; mdc (a cubic meter of charcoal) as the  unit for charcoal  commercialization; most of the purchased  charcoal  come from Minas Gerais state; forest foment is the main mechanism of financing charcoal production and the telephone as main information source; and the lack of commitment with the market is the main risk involved in the charcoal supply.
