|The present work had as objective to evaluate the influence of the speed of displacement on the performance of a direct row crop planter. The trial was lead in the State University of Norte Fluminense (UENF), in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, using the speeds of 2.5 and 4.4 km h-1, under direct sowing systems. In the sowing, it was used hybrid maize UENF 506-8, spaced between lines 0.9 m and approximately nine seeds per meter. Verifying the data, it was observed that increasing the speed, there was an increase in the slip of the wheeled planter in theoretical field capacity at planting depth, the peripheral speed of the hard seed feeder, roller skating wheels of the tractor and the number of seeds distributed by meter. The seeds that passed in the planter mechanism had a germination of 95.4%, in the speed of 2.5 and also of 4.4 km h-1, representing a reduction of 2.8% in the mechanical damage caused by the mechanism.
