Resumo: | The study aimed to identify the relationship among PA, Indicators of Obesity and Body Image in adults from a fishing village in northeastern Brazil. The sample was composed by seventy subjects (n = 70), residents of Mundaú - CE. The anthropometric variables were identified waist and hip, height and body mass, with subsequent determination of the contents of waist-hip ratio (WHR) and body mass index (BMI). In addition, a questionnaire was stating the following: a) questions about usual physical activities - daily occupational and leisure, b) figures of body silhouette with identification of the actual profile (AP) and desired (DP) of each individual, and the degree of satisfaction with body image (DS = DP - AP). Statistical analysis was done by Student's test or Mann-Whitney test, Wilcoxon test and Kendall concordance (p <0.05). Most of the sample are dissatisfied with their body image and the values of BMI and WHR found within the recommended range with lower health. Men are more active than women. In the total sample was found positive and significant association of LPA with WHR (r = 0.30) and BMI (r = 0.24). The most active converged to have less tendency to develop overweight and obesity. |
