Resumo: Hospitals are highly specialized organizations and they are inserted in a complex and hostile environment, being under the influences of political, economic and social variables. That way, these institutions need special and competent administrative management, generating a service with efficiency and quality. In this context, this research brings up the discussion of applicability of administrative tools aiming to answer the following questions: How the Human Resources Mangement influence the hospital's management? How the knowledge management can affect the development of hospitals situated in south region of Minas Gerais? Thus, this article gives attention to the application of a questionnaire published by Peabriu Institute, financed by Avina Foundation, in 2001 that involves seven indexes. In this research, two indexes were analyzed: human resources management and knowledge management in order to be used as complementary tools, so the organizations may evaluate their activities, identify priority issues and set up policies and guidelines able to reach and to optimize goals. Both hospitals presented relatively low indexes of Human Resources Management, but the indexes of Knowledge Management are much better at the two hospitals.
