Abstract: Paricá, Schizolobium parahyba var. amazonicum (Huber ex Ducke) Barneby is a native species from Amazonia that has been outstanding in commercial plantations of the region, due to its rapid growth and appropriate characteristics of its wood for plywood industries. In this paper the anatomical and physical characteristics of the paricá wood, from naturally occurring in the state of Pará, were evaluated. The native material was collected in the municipalities of Marabá, Pau D’Arco and Baião. Anatomical and physical analyses of timber were performed following the standard methods for these studies. The qualitative anatomical study did not show differences between the materials from native forest. For individuals of native forest, climatic differences between the municipalities may have influenced the quantitative wood anatomy. The mean of the basic density of regions was 0,33 g cm- ³ and statistically there was no difference among the values.
