Abstract: With the end of the brazilian coffee industry regulation in 1990, the industry experienced major changes. The aim of this study was to describe recent changes through the analysis of statistical data and information on mergers and acquisitions of Brazilian roasters. The data were obtained from literature review, analysis of statistical series and survey on mergers and acquisitions in the sector. The results show that domestic consumption grows since 1990, but there was a reduction in the pace of expansion in the last five years, which may signal the maturing of the market. There was a strong process of mergers and acquisitions led by multinationals, but in recent years Brazilian groups have made some important acquisitions. The industry concentration increased and there was a fall in roasted and ground coffee exports.
