Resumo: The use of hybrids was undoubtedly one of the most important events to increase the productivity of current crops. To this end, breeders use good complementary lineages that when crossbred produce superior individuals. Several methods can be used to produce lines, mass selection, bulk, pedigree, cryptic hybrids, among others. Those methods basically consist in successive generations of self-fertilizations until the desired level of homozygous is reached. From the methods mentioned, the cryptic hybrid has great potential for the synthesis of superior lines. This method works with two populations and aims to obtain complementary lines between them. However, because it is little studied, there is little information available in the literature on this method. With this, the objective of this work was to evaluate the viability of this method to obtain high complementarity lineages. For this, 141 S0 cryptic hybrids were obtained and evaluated from populations of recurrent reciprocal selection. The hybrids were evaluated in two locations, in experiments with a simple 12x12 square lattice type design, with two replicates, to ear production, plant height and ear height. Two simple hybrids, 30F53 VYHR and DKB390 PRO2, and a double hybrid, UFLA JM100, were used as control. The data were analyzed through a mixed model approach and the maximum likelihood (REML) method was used to estimate the components of variance. Of the evaluated hybrids, 36 were superior to the commercial hybrids used as witnesses, of these, it is suggested that two follows in the program of cryptic hybrids, progenies 76 and 75, because they present the best performance according to the joint analysis.
