Posição taxonômica do Pinus de Tecum Umán: análise das características de acículas

Abstract

Anatomical and morphological needle's traits were used to shed light on the taxonomical position of Tecun Umán pine as well as to propose a standartization for the denomination of this taxon in Brazil. This taxon is considered to belong to P. tecunumanii, species çlosely related to P. oocarpa by EGUILUZ & PERRY (1983) and as subspecies of P. patula, P. patula spp. tecunumanii by STYLES (1985). Four provenances of Tecun Umán pine were used in this study: Mountain Pine Ridge, Yucul, Camélias, and San Rafael, collected in three populations located at Lavras (MG), Agudos (SP) and Esplanada (BA). The analyses of several needle's traits showed that the four provenances belong to the same taxon, that is, to Tecun Umán pine and that they are very closely related to P. patula and thus showed be considered as P. patula subspecies tecunumanii, a classification that agrees with STYLES (1985). From the data presented in this study we suggest that the subspecific category for Tecun Umán Pinua be adopted in Brazil.
