Abstract: The works of rescue and conservation of plant species are functions attributed to the banks of genetic collections, called germplasm banks. These banks are a viable way of conserving the genetic information contained in the DNA of each plant species, and for this, different techniques are available in the literature indicated for the management in each case. These functions are fundamental to avoid the process of extinction of the plant species, in addition to allowing the multiplication of these materials. In this sense, in order to gather information about the maintenance of the plant germplasm, this work contemplates the different techniques indicated to manage the genetic resources of plants, through germplasm banks. All stages of the process were considered, from the rescue of the propagating material, in its different forms, to its conduction, its multiplication and its storage, through the different techniques presented in the literature. From the germplasm banks, the recovery and valorization of the plants varieties represent important gains, mainly for the environmental, scientific, cultural, economic, social and nutritional sectors, as well as on biosafety issues.
