Resumo: The present work aims to present part of the research carried out by the Research Group on Literary Language and Aesthetic Education, coordinated by the coauthor teacher Andrea Portolomeos, within the UFLA literature. More precisely, it intends to present possibilities for the teacher of Portuguese Language and Literature to work a literary text in the classroom, through the perspective of literary literacy, a process explained, among others, by Rildo Cosson in the CEALE Glossary, organized by UFMG. This perspective, which understands literary reading as "the process of appropriation of literature as language", encompasses fundamental terms such as the notion of process and then appropriation in the acquisition and conquest of a new language with aesthetic specificities. In this sense, this work is also based on the discussion of Antonio Candido in his essay "The Right to Literature," in which the eminent critic conceives literature as the right of every human being and, as such, as a basic field of knowledge for the full formation of the individual. In this wake, this communication presents possible ways of working the literary text in the classroom, considering literary literacy; more specifically, it analyzes the story "The Dragons", by the mining author Murilo Rubião, as a means of discussing methodologies for an effective work with the literary language in the school.
