Abstract: The article presents a theoretical reference discussion that based a research which analyzed the configuration of the brazilian scientific field of educational evaluation during the 1980s. The theoretical reference was constructed from literature review in the productions of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu and the discussion around his concept of field, scientific and intellectual field. The synthesis emphasizes how the notion of field elaborated by the author can help our reflection on the historicity of the field of educational evaluation in Brazil, presenting elements that consider the agents that are part of this field, the specific interests that demarcate the field and the conflicts arising from its maintenance or transformation.
