Abstract: The practice of bodybuilding can provide numerous benefits to health and quality of life. Many studies show that physical exercise associated with good nutrition improves physical performance and body esthetics. The aim of this study was evaluated the consumption of sports supplements by bodybuilders. 300 individuals were included in this trial (179 men and 121 women) aged between 18 and 49 years. The consumption of sports supplements was evaluated using a self-administered questionnaire containing 13 objective questions. The improvement of body esthetics was the main purpose of 69% of the individuals. The use of sports supplements was reported by 78% of the individuals more frequently in the male gender (p<0.01). Protein supplements (p<0.01) and creatine (p<0.001) were the products most used by the individuals, also more frequently in men. They used these products by self-administration, or through the recommendation of friends and instructors. Although there was a high consumption of sports supplements, there was low satisfaction with the results achieved, requiring greater intervention by qualified professionals for greater effectiveness of the desired results. The results demonstrated that the cult of the body is the main purpose for the practice of bodybuilding and the consumption of sports supplements, also in trial was predominant individuals of the male gender.
