Abstract: Originally from South America, cassava is a major energy food to about 500 million people, mostly in developing countries, where it is grown in small areas with low technology. More than 80 countries produce cassava, and Brazil participates with over 15% of the world production. The experiment was conducted in the area of EPAMIG-URENM, located at Jaíba Project, in the North of Minas Gerais (Brazil). The treatments consisted of ten cassava clones, with five new clones (UFLA) and five commercial clones (cultivars). Among the commercial clones, three are cultivated in the South and two are cultivated in the North region of Minas Gerais. The experiment design used was a randomized complete block design, with three replications. The parcels consisted of three lines with five plants each, arranged in the spacing of 1.0 m x 0.6 m. Fertilization used was the recommended for the crop according to the soil analysis. The clones assessed showed good performance in the region of Jaíba irrigation project, and some clones produced tuberous roots 47.95% greater than the local varieties. In this region, cassava can be harvest with good results at six months after planting.
