Resumo: In the current Brazilian technological landscape, it is still necessary to develop more efficient tools that seek explanations of the phenomena that surround and control the conversion of wood into charcoal in close range to industrial. Thereby, the study aimed to analyze the potential of macro ATG kiln, from the gaseous flow behavior during the pyrolysis process of eucalyptus wood small logs. The manufacture of equipment was conducted by CIRAD in France and installed on Biomass Energy Laboratory - UFLA. They were used Eucalyptus urophylla clones diameter grouped into two classes: 8 - 10 cm and 13 - 16 cm. Temperature profiles were evaluated gaseous flow generated within the wood order to follow the heat transfer during the process. An increase of the gaseous flow between the temperatures of 350 to 500 °C due to intensification of wood decomposition. The total volume of produced gas was around 543 cm3 and 697 cm3, respectively for the smallest and largest diameter class. There is no uniformity in heat transfer within the wood, the temperature at the outer surface is approximately 33% higher than inside the piece of wood. Thus, the device can be considered technological innovation in the study of gas flow pyrolysis, and you can follow in macro scale, the change in the gas volume and the behavior of heat transfer in the wood.
