Abstract: In Brazil, the use of Mathematical Modeling as a didactic strategy occurred in the late 1970s and early 1980s, based on the ideas and works of Paulo Freire and Ubiratan D’Ambrósio as informed by Borba and Villarreal (BORBA; VILLARREAL, apud MEYER; CALDEIRA; MALHEIROS, 2011, p. 78). As it is considered by the majority of teachers as a teaching strategy with a lot of challenges, this work contributes to this theme, presenting some activities for teaching quadratic functions using experiments with launching of objects. The use of technology is necessary to obtaining the trajectories of the objects and Mathematical Modeling is presented in order to find out models (functions) which get closer to the trajectories. In addiction, with the registration of the numbers of cases of covid-19 in June in Itaguara-MG, it is presented another opportunity to apply the quadratic functions and the search for better models.
