Resumo: The current conjuncture of literature teaching in Brazil reveals that there is still much to be done to make literary reading practices part of the reality of classrooms. In this context, the present research is directed to the field of teacher training in order to reflect on some conditions that involve teacher training and professional practice, going through all the reasons to read literature at school and based on the ideas and Darcy Ribeiro's novels. This research is divided into two stages: a) articles resulting from bibliographic research on the subject and b) pedagogical notebook as a result of the research. It is a material aimed at the teacher's work with literature through Ribeiro's ideas and novels, among other literary genres of other authors, with a focus on high school. The first article, Practices of literary reading and its dialogues with human formation, contemplated the contributions of literature in the dimension of human formation. The second article, From teacher training to professional practice, related teacher training and professional practice based on the insertion of literary literacy in schools. The third of them, The teaching of literary text from the perspective of Darcy Ribeiro's work, reflected on the potential of literary art in education and surveyed the contributions and functions developed by Darcy Ribeiro, especially in this same area. The pedagogical notebook was a product, therefore, the final result of the discussions carried out throughout the research. The material brought together proposals for didactic sequences for the study of poems, short stories and literary novels that have a conscious theme on some issues of the formation of the Brazilian people, as studied by Darcy Ribeiro. Thus, the research is justified by listing discussions and didactic proposals that can cause changes in training to professional performance, proposing a view of literature as essential in human training for several and several reasons. The bibliographic research allowed some surveys to be carried out based on the issues that involve teacher training, university education and how they are also present in basic education. It was possible to understand that literature is more than a discipline, it allows human training to be enriched and that critical and imaginative capacities are cultivated, in addition to being dialogical and, therefore, contributing to the understanding of many factors in today's society. We also observed that Darcy Ribeiro had a career with different actions, but all focused on a common good: the Brazilian people and the needs of those who most need attention, above all, in public education and in encouraging reading. Therefore, we conclude that his works are important and necessary because they contemplate reflections on the reality of the Brazilian people in a critical and creative way.
