Resumo: Over the years, Brazilian forests have been suffering anthropogenic pressures that threaten the environment and ecological balance. In order to monitor, control and mitigate environmental impacts, Brazilian environmental legislation established the Environmental Rural Registry (CAR, in Portuguese) through Federal Law Nº 12.651 / 2012. The CAR aims at the environmental adequacy of the rural property respecting the instruments of environmental conservation, namely, Permanent Preservation Area (PPA) and Legal Reserve (LR). The study objective is analyze rural properties regularization of Piranguinho municipality in the CAR, in relation to the quantity, rural property size and land cover composition in PPA and LR areas. The CAR data for the municipality were extracted from the platform of the Rural Environmental Cadastre System (Sicar, in portuguese) and processed using the ArcGIS® software. Piranguinho has 592 registered properties and 98% of the properties have an area of less than 4 MF (corresponding to 64% of the area of the municipality), with 53.55% of the area of PPAs being pasture covered and 81.84% RL area is composed of Lower Montana Semi-deciduous Seasonal Forest. The results serve as a warning for the need to recover the APP and RL areas in the city.
