Abstract: This study aims to conduct an integrative literature review on the process of deinstitutionalization. We sought to understand the advances in the works that are based on the discussion about the deinstitutionalization work. Lawrence and Suddaby (2006) point to the need for work from the perspective of institutional work, especially empirical studies. As a methodological approach, an integrative review of the international literature on institutional deinstitutionalization work was carried out on the international bases of journals indexed to the Capes, Scopus and Web of Science journals. The integrative review pointed out not only the situation of the field with its mature and emerging themes, as well as the theoretical and methodological aspects, but also new directions for the field. Altogether, nine empirical studies were completed. As an emerging field, it was observed the plurality of institutional fields in the process of investigating deinstitutionalization practices, which corroborates the need for greater attention to approach in institutional work with the approximation of other theoretical approaches. The analyzed studies present challenges to be explored in the field of Institutional Theory, which proves to be an open field for dialogue with other approaches.
