Resumo: The Brazilian Federal Constitution of the year 1988 already highlighted in its article 5, fundamental guarantees, which occasionally included access to education. Within this, the State was also responsible for developing legislative mechanisms that would develop education through public initiatives on a mandatory basis, which made it recognize it as guaranteed rights and social policies. Education is a political and social way of ethically and morally instructing man for the most diverse inter-social and extra-social relationships that daily life demands. In this sense, the objective of the work was outlined on two fronts, the one that deals with the social function of cities and access to state and municipal public schools in the Municipality of Lavras/MG, as well as the insertion of environmental education as a pedagogical tool. cross. Due to the methodology criteria, the qualitative-quantitative research proved to be efficient for the compression of the data and information obtained. These data were collected through online forms directed to public schools and the consultation of municipal laws took place through public access platforms. It was possible to understand that there is a sufficient number of public schools available for students and the social function of cities is being applied in the main municipal districts. As a result, a data analysis was obtained capable of understanding how schools are distributed in the centers and more peripheral areas, their structures capable of meeting the number and access of students, as well as in which areas demand more investments in schools or structural improvements. so that they serve future students. Due to the results, it was also possible to determine whether environmental education is included in the methodological body and school curriculum of municipal and educational public schools in the Municipality of Lavras/MG, making final comments indicating criterion for improvement.
