Resumo: It is known that public universities have increasingly sought to carry out extension actions with greater impact and social value, considering the use of innovative policies and work methods, with more comprehensive and faster procedures. However, there are still evidence of delays in the approval procedures for extension projects with the competent bodies, a situation that hinders their execution. Considering this, the objective of this study was to evaluate the applicability of the Scrum methodology as a management tool for extension projects in a Federal Institution of Higher Education. Therefore, applied research was carried out, with a descriptive objective and a qualitative approach. The action-research strategy was used, with the implementation of the Scrum framework. Interviews were conducted with those responsible for the procedures and documents were collected that served as a basis for understanding the current process of project management. From analysis of the interviews was carried out and the procedures (“as is” and “to be”) were described using BPMN (Business Process Model and Notation) diagrams. Using the Scrum framework, two extension projects were conducted (service provision) and the new indicators were evaluated. Some adaptations were necessary in the framework to meet the specificities of the public body, without mischaracterizing the essence of Scrum, but the results pointed to an improvement in quality and the reduction of time in the processing of projects. Scrum improved the quality of IFES (Federal Higher Education Institution) extension project approval processes, reduced delays and increased knowledge on the subject. New studies are also proposed to solve problems in other areas of the University.
