Resumo: Of unknown etiology and rarely reported in dogs, Extraocular Muscle Myositis -EMM, is the idiopathic inflammation of one or more extra orbital muscles. In general, it presents symptoms such as exophthalmos, which may be unilateral or bilateral, strabismus, protrusion of the third eyelid, showing the dog with a frightened expression, according to the owners. Treatment consists of the use of corticosteroids in an immunosuppressive dose, and other drugs such as azathioprine may be combined. In the hypothesis, a 7-year-old mixed breed dog was seen by Dr. Mario Alves Ribeiro at the Veterinary Teaching and Research Unit in Veterinary Medicine, located in the Federal University of Acre, with bilateral exophthalmos, difficulty blinking, rigid muscles and signs of ulcer surface of the cornea. After clinical exams, she was diagnosed with Extraocular Muscle Myositis and treatment with an immunosuppressive dose of prednisone was indicated. On the first return, the animal still had the symptoms, and the treatment with azathioprine was complemented for 5 days. After the period, the animal returned for the second return, in which it showed remission of symptoms and total improvement. A new clinical examination was performed, in which the patient was well and without signs of recurrence. The diagnosis was facilitated by the classic form of presentation of the disease and its treatment with immunosuppressants proved to be effective.
