Resumo: Fishing is a prominent activity on the world stage. However, the decline in fish stocks of certain species has been noted. The great concern with the depletion of the stocks has been generating more and more studies related to the conservation and recovery of the stocks. Santos, Martins and Pompeu (2012) proposed an individual-based model that takes into account the evolutionary effects of selective fishing on the exploited population. This model is an adaptation of the Penna model, based on the biology of Pintado (Pseudoplatystoma corruscans). One of the objectives of the study was the study of the behavior of such a model by altering parameters related to the growth rate and asymptotic length of the fish. In this study we compared the results of the model with empirical / theoretical data found in the literature for fish species in general, thus verified the efficiency of the model to describe the population dynamics of different species. Another objective of this work was to analyze the effect of fishing for species with different life histories, with respect to size and growth rate. It was verified that the fishing acts more strongly on larger species and of lower rate of growth. Finally, it was also the objective of the study to treat the population dynamics of Barbado (Pinirampus pirinampu) considering different fishing efforts and to verify how different equations for fecundity, basically considering high and low reproductive potential, interfere in the predictions of the model. In addition, an adaptation to the Santos, Martins and Pompeu (2012) model was proposed to increase fishing effort and thus, to study the effect of high levels of fishing mortality on Barbado species characteristics.
