Resumo: The grazing cattle production system is almost always related to climate change and damage to the ecosystem. Legumes in pasture mixtures can represent a positive impact on the environment, nitrogen fertilizer substitution, biological nitrogen fixation and increased nutritional value and forage production. Among the legume options for introduction into mixed pastures, forage peanut, Arachis pintoi, is promising and stands out for its good persistence when intercropped with fast-growing grasses such as brachiaria, one of the most used tropical grasses. The objective of this study was to briefly report the benefits of the use of forage peanuts and management strategies studied for its adoption in different grazing systems, this related to the physiological mechanisms and structural responses of the plants. The propagation mechanisms of legumes are reported, and how forage peanut is adaptable to different managements and therefore stands out in mixed pasture. Grazing management can influence the persistence of legumes, and with adjustments in the goals of entry and exit of animals in the pasture, meat production and nutritional value, as well as nitrogen fixation, may be higher in mixed pastures compared to monoculture.
