Abstract: In this work the objective was to evaluate the effects of replacement compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) for light-emitting diode (LED) lamps in the artificial illumination of Hy Line W-36 laying hens from commercial aviaries over productive and egg quality indexes, as well as over the technical-economic traits of both illumination systems. Two poultry aviaries were evaluated, the first equipped with CFL and the second LED lamps. The productive performance evaluation was done by means of measuring feed intake, feed conversion, mortality and laying percentage. The specific gravity was used to evaluate the egg shell quality. The illuminances of both aviaries were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and geostatistics. The technical and economic feasibility in substituting CFL for LED lamps was performed by means of electric energy consumption, internal rate of return, net present value and payback. The replacement of compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) for LED in poultry aviaries do not influence negatively the productive performance and laying hens' egg shell quality (F test, p>0.05). Regarding illuminances distribution, it was verified that the aviary equipped with CFL presented better uniformity and results in meeting the illumination levels of 5 lux. Electric energy consumption in the aviary equipped with LED lamps was 43.52% lower than that illuminated by CFL. Technical and economic analysis indicates that the investment for replacement of CFL for LED is considered attractive, being the period for initial investment return of 9.11 years.
