Resumo: This work aims at analyzing the water supply and sanitary exhaustion system of the Amadeu Lacerda rural community in the municipality of Divinópolis, Minas Gerais, Brazil, under the perspective of economic sustainability. We researched the characteristics of the water supply and sanitary exhaustion system of the community. In the water supply system, we researched the quality conditions of the equipment and verified the need for substitution of the reservoir. In the sanitary exhaustion system, which was inexistent, the implementation of all equipment was considered. Based o n this implementation demand, the cost of initial investment was determined, and, for the composition of the monthly cost of maintenance and operation, we considered the intake of electric energy used in the pumping system and the use of an operator. For analyzing economic sustainability, we studied the environmental impact and the application of fine, caused by the lack of a sanitary exhaustion system, and the social impact caused by the quality of the water supply, concerning water transmitted diseases and the respective medication investment costs. We verified that the investment cost for implementing the system in the community is of R$ 306,108.33, higher than the expenses of environmental fines and medications, which is of R$ 30,095.31. The cost of maintenance and operation of the system in counterpart with the collection capacity of tariffs from the community is compatible, generating an annual profit of R$ 7,214.14. With this value, it becomes financially unfeasible for sanitation companies to undertake these services and have the expected return of investment. Based on this sustainability analysis, we diagnosed the main factor leading to the Amadeu Lacerda rural community not having an adequate water supply and sanitary exhaustion system.
