Abstract: The wet processing coffee besides consuming huge volumes of water, also generates wastewater rich in organic and inorganic compounds. In this research it was studied the characteristics and pollutant potential of the wastewaters originated from the wet processing coffee, which the average values found were: 16,452 mg L -1; 9,011 mg L-1; 4.5; 4.9 dS m-1; 2.56%; 99.9 mg L-1; 954.2 mg L-1 e 194 mg L-1, in terms of COD, BOD5, pH, conductivity, salinity, total nitrogen, phenolic compounds and oil and grease, respectively. Also the results of bromatological analysis were as follow: 44,667 mg L-1; 1,067 mg L-1; 0.44 %; 1,315 mg L-1; 1,189 mg L-1 and 97.32 %, concerning total sugar, amid, protein, total pectin, soluble pectin and humidity, respectively, showing a great pollutant potential, and if they are not treated satisfactorily, before disposal, this wastewater can severely pollute the environment, specially the natural resources water and soil, and consequently the atmosphere. The high values of BOD5 are far above tannery factories, dairy industries, softdrink and brewery industries and also cannery food industries. The great values concerning salinity and electrical conductivity, showed a high restriction degree in using of the ARC in cultivars fertirrigation. The high values of organic compounds in the ARC are an indication for treating this type of wastewater through anaerobic process obtaining the biogas as an energetic income.
