Abstract: The bulk method presents as the main limitation the loss of progenies during sampling. Studies to undertand and minimize this limitation are scarce. This study aimed to verify the effect of sampling and natural selection on the bulk method in self-pollinated plants. Many configurations were simulated using the F4 and F24 generations and families F4:5, F4:6 e F24:25. The effects on the average, minimum and maximum numbers favorable of loci, the genetic variance and the number of favorables alleles were measurad throug 1000 simulations for each configuration. The simulations considered different heritabilities, allelic interactions and number of loci. The sampling effect was evaluated with different bulk size of 50, 200, 1000, 2000 e 5000 individuals. It was concluded that to determine the number of individuals for the bulk method the heritability should be considered. The bulk size 2000 of individuals in the simulated conditions were efficient.
