Abstract: The paper discusses the performance of the Escola Família Agrícola (EFA) Itapirema as a center of professional education, with focus on sustainable rural development. The main objective was to identify and analyze environmental visions and conceptions of sustainable rural development in documents and the performance of the school. In conceptual terms, the paper discusses the environmentalism, sustainable development and sustainable rural development. The information had been extracted of materials and official documents of the institution. The technique adopted, the analysis of content, was used by pre-analysis, for organization, prioritization and selection of material for study, the classification for defining the concepts addressed, and the qualification of approaches and interpretation of the content analyzed. It was possible to identify a vision of EFA environmentalist who seeks to reconcile development with technical and scientific regulation of natural resources, but with relevance to the conservation aspects. His concept of sustainable rural development seeks to reconcile the vision sustainability through ecological modernization with social vision, through the stay of young people in property and environmental sustainability.
