Resumo: The term “social capital” can be considered an optimizing variable of the equation of social development and regional economical prosperity. Indeed it makes coordinated actions easier, thus improving and increasing the efficiency of the society by characteristics such as confidence, cooperation, and participation. This way they can be recognized as a help to make the social and economical development easier. The goal of this study is the analysis of the existence and predominance of social capital in a coffee farm of Poço Fundo town. This property produces organic coffee on the South region of Minas Gerais state. Thus, methodologically this study has specifically intended to identify a multimethod approach, and this encompasses procedures of quanti-qualitative research along with a triangulation technique. The results showed that in the reality observed in Poço Fundo there are ways of social capital as a community resource, as well as denser and closer nets in which the trust by means of cooperation and solidarity allowed the organic coffee farmers of this region to create an union. After they could create a cooperative with the beginnings of working management inside the philosophy of the fair trade. This network created by the coffee farmers secured them some empowerment to act in a very competitive market.
