Resumo: This work sought to qualitatively reflect and problematize how cinema can mediate teacher formation, seeking to understand the educational work of teachers based on two movies. These reflections are supported by aesthetical considerations, perceiving the possibilities of thinking of educational practice. For this, a bibliographic study on cinema, supported by the thoughts of Walter Benjamin on reflecting over the formative possibilities related to cinema, was conducted to demonstrate an esthetic education mediated by cinema. The participation in the extension project “Cinema with life” allowed the approximation of cinematographic works that presented different esthetics to those perceived from commercial films. In this research, the films were connected to the French “Nouvelle Vague” movement. As methodology, two works of the French cinematographer François Truffaut were analyzed and reflected upon: Small Change (1976) and The four hundred blows (1959). For the analysis, sequences of the films, which were related to teaching, were initially selected to guide the perspective in order to reflect on some of the aspects related to teaching. Subsequently, the following analysis categories were defined: pedagogical conception; authority; how the teacher guides education; and teaching performance, seeking to build critical arguments on the aspects presented in the films. This research allowed a more focused and sensitive perspective of the films, observing a few aspects that are also present in daily life. The approach based on the films allowed the perception and understanding that there is a formative potential in this type of technology, be it for allowing a wider perspective of reality or for awakening sensations, feelings or memories.
