Abstract: The finite element method has been employed in the machine design, as well as to study the dynamic behavior of the coffee plant or its parts. The objective of this study was to determine the geometric, physical and mechanical properties of coffee fruit-stem-branch system. The dimensions were determined by image processing, the masses and volumes measured using weighing-machine and graduated cylinder, respectively. The modulus of elasticity was determined by compression, tension and bending mechanical tests for fruits, stems and branches, respectively. The Poisson’s ratio was determined using the longitudinal and transversal deformation of the fruits and stems. The damping ratio was determined by the decay curves using the logarithmic decrement method. It was concluded that the fruit dimensions and mass showed a tendency to increase with mature stage evolution. The modulus of elasticity for fruit and stems in green (cherry) stage was higher than the values for the mature stage.
