Abstract: The Brazilian National School Feeding Program (PNAE) is one of the oldest public programs of food supplementation created by the Federal Government and is considered one of the largest in the world. The program has grown considerably over the years in relation to the number of students served, from 33 million in 1995, to more than 42 million students attended in 2014. Among its objectives, the program promotes the provision of school meals, meeting the nutritional needs of students in public schools. The present study evaluate the potential of the PNAE as a promoter in the strengthening of family agriculture from farmers' point of view in the municipality of Ouro Fino-MG. The work was characterized as a case study, whose object of study were family farmers of the municipality that sell for the PNAE, totalizing a sample of 11 farmers interviewed. The qualitative exploratory work include a questionnaire, interviews recording and subsequent tabulation of the data. With the interviews, it was found that a greater dialogue is needed between PNAE purchasing agents and farmers, aiming at strengthening the program in the municipality, as well as ensuring the diversity of foods served on the menu for students. Farmers have reported the demotivation of selling to the program for issues such as: the average calculation of food prices, quantity marketed, among others.
