Abstract

Management of the farm enterprise and its productivity One of the main problems of the farm enterprise is related to the adequate accomp 1 ishment of the essential activities to manage them. This research aknowledges the farm records as a valuable administrative activity and supports that they are necessary; but, separately, they are not sufficient to manage the farm enterprise. The aim of this research was to identify the essential administraiive activities to manage the farm enterprise relating them to the productivity. The research was carried out in the cocoa region of Bahia, Brazil,using one sample from 76 producers . The data were obtained from a ques,tionary specially prepared for that purpose. Neoclassical and sistems work's therory were taken as the theoretic reference which admit that every enterprise has four functional áreas (output, finance, marketing, and labour) and show that each one of them contributes in a particular way, to benefif the whole business or, the contrary, acts .s a barrier to healthy enterprise. It is also a theoretical supposition that each functional área is composed of some activities which once not put in practice, it will lead to bad results. The explanatory variables were taken as the activities related to output, finance, marketing and labour and the productivity was taken as the dependent variable. The results were discussed on the grounds of tabular analysis and siraple correlation. The main conclusions were: - The majority of the farm producers (67 percent) use the administrative activities studied in this research, even though, remarkably, wity an unceptable standard of performance. - The four functional áreas of the agricultural enterprise are interlaced among them selves in such a way that an incorrect decision in one of them will reflect negativlly to the other ones . - There is a direct association of the agricultural productivity with the four functional áreas of the farm enterprise.
