Abstract: Brazil has great potential for producing aquatic organisms. However, the production chain is still little studied, leaving to be desired in quality and quantity of products. In this context, the present study sought to evaluate three varieties UFLA (two commercial varieties of tilápia in diallel crosses), to evaluate the genetic group to be used as mother and father, in order to obtain a higher fillet yield and a lower volume of residues. Data were selected from 24 families composed of complete and half-brothers breeding from 2014 to 2016, in the fish farming sector of the Animal Science Department at the Federal University of Lavras. Before slaughtering, all animals were weighed and measured morphometry, generating the data of weight, standard length, head length, height, head height and width, and after slaughtering, the biological materials were separated and weighed generating data of head weight, carcass weight, fillet weight and residue weight, and also head yield, carcass yield, fillet yield and residue yield. By Scott-Knott test averages grouping, the averages were separated by groups identified by letters. The general and specific combination, in addition to the maternal effect, it was calculated to predict the best crossing within the work. The crossbreeding using the Vcomercial 2 male and UFLA female presented favorable features for carcass and yield, positive combining ability for fillet yield feature and superior maternal effect for carcass and fillet yield features.
