Abstract: The present work was devoted to analyze the contributions of the Institutional Program of Scholarships for Teaching Initiation for the formation of undergraduate students in Physical Education of the Federal University of Lavras, under the gaze of the teachers belonging to the department Physical Education who acting or who acted in due course in the program while area coordinators. The study was based on a qualitative perspective, exploratory and descriptive-interpretative and had two instruments: literature review and interviews with a semi-structured questionnaire. In general lines, the data showed that the program contributed effectively to teacher formation initial, by articulating the relationship between the theoretical foundation and the daily life of the public school.
