Abstract: Biological wastes are residues resulting from activities carried out by health care providers and laboratories, and educational institutions are potentially sources of such wastes. The lack of adoption of adequate technical procedures for the management of biological waste creates risks to health and the environment. This work aimed at the creation of didactic material recorded through nine video-classes covering biological waste and safety in laboratories, in order to raise the knowledge and awareness of servers of the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) in waste management and safety practices in laboratories in this institution. To this end, an electronic memorandum was sent to the heads of 11 departments, to indicate the servers that should participate in the work. Thirty-two servers joined the proposal. The didactic scope of the training was evaluated through the application of online questionnaires, before and after the training. It was verified that the offered training provided an increase of the knowledge and raising of the degree of awareness of those involved, in different proportions, for all the topics addressed, reaching in some cases the maximum objective of the topic, thus fulfilling the proposal of the training and the educational process in general. It is believed, however, that the training should be further publicized and extrapolated in the institution, aiming to reach more servers. And, consequently, to obtain a constant improvement in the management of biological waste and safety in laboratories in UFLA, stimulating the environmental education and the occupational health of its members and users.
