Abstract: | This work was carried out in the community settlement of the Virola Jatobá Sustainable Development Project, in Anapu, Pará state, Brazil. The objective of this work was to collect information about the plants used by the community, as well as the parts used, the indications, and the relative importance of these plants. A total of 41 semi-structured and structured interviews were conducted in order to gather information on the use of medicinal plants from the residents of the community settlement. The mentioned ethnospecies were collected in inquiries guided by the members of the community. Thereafter, the species were identified in the laboratory and their relative importance was calculated using the kappa statistics. There were 46 species used for medicinal purposes, belonging to 29 botanical families, with emphasis on Fabaceae (24.1%) and Lamiaceae (17.2%). The most used parts of plants in medicinal preparations were leaves and bark, and tea was the main form of use. The most mentioned diseases and/or symptoms were related to the digestive and respiratory systems. Native species of arboreal habit were the most cited and indicated for the preparation of medicines due to the approximation of the residences with the forest. The most popular and relevant species for the community were Copaifera sp, Carapa guianensis, Lippia alba, Cymbopogon citratus, Hymenaea courbaril L. and Dipteryx odorata. |
