Resumo: : The objective of this work to evaluate the physical and mechanical characteristics of bamboos (Bambusa vulgaris and Bambusa vulgaris vittata) with different heat treatments and apply them as reinforcement to mortar Board instead of steel. For this, bamboo samples were selected and removed from a country estate in the municipality of Rondonopolis-Mt. were performed two heat treatments (shower in hot water and hot-cold bath with used cooking oil). Tests were performed to determine the rate of deterioration and moisture content of bamboo with and without the treatments. Subsequently, based on the results of the tensile and compression of the bamboo, mortar boards were made with six different types of backup. Based on the results obtained, it was observed that the thermal treatment and prophylactic, decreased the moisture content and the biodegradation of bamboo. There was no significant improvement in the simple compression test in the treatments tested. However, thermal treatment with bio-oil in the sample of yellow bamboo with knot obtained higher value of tensile strength. It was observed that the thermal treatments with bio-oil and water had average values of flexural strength higher than the control.
