Sistemas de informação na administração universitária: uma análise do processo de gestão do ensino de graduação na Universidade Federal de Lavras

Abstract

This work had the objective of studying the information administration, here understood as Information System (IS),focusing the academic management of the under graduate courses in the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA). It was based on a case study carried out in the Pró-Reitoria de Graduação (PRG) and Diretoria de Registro e Controle Acadêmico (DRCA), sectors responsible for the university's under graduate courses management. Documental research and personal interviews with management technicians and managers directly involved in the undergraduate management were used as data collecting techniques. From the identification of the information flow, of the importance of the Information Technology (IT) in the information management, the potentialities, limitations, and possible solution for them, of the IS established in the studied sectors were detected. The results show that the information attend, especially, the University's internal public (students, professors and other sectors and departments). In this context, the IT plays a fundamental role in the information solicitation, search and divulgation processes, although the University does not take total advantage of its resources, especially with respect to the computer nets. Potentialities of the established IS were verified, especially in relation to the involvement of the personnel responsible for the undergraduate management. On the other hand, the limitations that were found can bring serious consequences to the PRG and DRCA's information systems, pointing out the university's IS lack of planning. This way, it was verified that an information policy structuring, involving all the segments of UFLA(professors, management technicians and students) and all the sectors inserted in this process, maybe the most indicated solution to solve the limitations that were found.
