Abstract: Due to the low income and high residual requirement of crops, the nitrogen fertilization must be produced in larger quantities and more usual than the other nutrients. As the vast majority of programs for improvement of maize in Brazil evaluates the progeny in the presence of nitrogen, it is important to check whether the selection, carried out under favorable conditions the culture is also effective for the conditions of nutrient stress. This work aimed to verify and identify efficient cultivars or tolerant in the use of nitrogen, in order to recommend hybrids for each management system. For this, they were conducted three different experiments and adjoining six hybrids from different companies. In the first experiment, it was absent in nitrogen fertilizer, to the second was applied the recommended dose of nitrogen in the northern of Mato Grosso (100 kg ha-1), and in the third experiment was applied twice the amount of nitrogen fertilizer recommended (200 kg ha-1). The experimental design was randomized blocks with three replications and the plots consisted of two rows of three meters in length. Based on these results, it can be inferred that the the dose of 200 kg ha-1 provided the average of the best hybrid agronomic performance compared to lower doses. The hybrid DKB390YG best estimates presented in the maximum level of fertilization, considering the character husked ear weight, genotype is considered a very responsive application of N.
