Abstract: In his research about the meaning of work together with administrators, conducted between 1994 and 1998, Morin (2002) presented six features in regards to work that have sense, among them, the one which postulates that the work to be meaningful must be morally acceptable. Given this result was then asked, what should be the meaning of work morally unacceptable. We chose to investigate a category considered immoral in society: the prostitutes. To this end, we sought to understand the sense that these women give to performed sex work, as well as describing their history and their perception of the activity they carry out. A descriptive-qualitative research approach was adopted and conducted through semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation. Data interpretation was based on social constructionist perspective and therefore the senses production analysis proposal was used. Through interviews with these professionals, it was observed that the work for them is not without a sense; however this turns to their and their families’ survival and the possibility to consume what they want.
