Abstract: When Chesbrough presented more than a decade ago his seminal work on open innovation, he not only coined a term but also opened up a new area of research. In the last decade, several studies have been done. However, in the intraorganizational domain, its implementation is still unexamined. In most of the literature, the not-invented-here and not-sold-here syndromes have been the focus of research, in detriment to seeking a conceptual model that can correlate the organizational factors that could induce open innovation. We propose a model that relates organizational culture (including the cited syndromes) to open innovation, based on empirical evidence. This model not only contributes to the literature on open innovation but can also help professionals within organizations to check and to monitor the organizational environment for open innovation. In the conclusions section we present the hypotheses and limitation of our study as well as suggestions for future research.
