Abstract: A problem of coffee currently refers to the process management of coffee farms, the inability of these management companies, organizational weakness, and the presence of deeply rooted customs and practices. Risk management plays an important role in this scenario because it gives subsidies to farmers so they can make informed decisions and timely activity through planning. The futures markets as an alternative marketing and protection against price risk, are one of the most appropriate alternatives, because the mechanism of security they provide. The main objective of this study is to determine the conditions of use of the futures market for coffee producers in the south and southwest of Minas Gerais. The factors affecting the use of futures markets by farmers of the South and Southwest are the Minas area for cefeicultura, participation in courses and training and the number of employees hired by farmers.
