Abstract: The application of calcified seaweed, consisting of calcareous algae, can improve physical, chemical and microbiological properties of the soil, improving the availability of nutrients for plants. Furthermore, chemical thinning is a technique used to obtain larger fruits and to achieve better market prices. An evaluation of the influence of chemical thinning associated with the application of calcified seaweed on the production and fruit quality of Ponkan mandarin trees. The study was conducted in Perdões, southern Minas Gerais State, Brazil, located at S 21° 05'27" and W 45° 05'27", in a commercial orchard. The experiment was conducted in a factorial scheme 4x2, with four doses of calcified seaweed per plant (0.0, 0.3, 0.6 and 1.2 kg) and with and without chemical thinning with 600 mg L-1 of Ethephon. The experimental design was a randomized block with three blocks and four plants per plot. Production of fruits (kg per plant), transverse diameter (mm), longitudinal diameter (mm), mass (g), acidity (%), soluble solids (°Bx) and ratio of fruits were evaluated. The application of calcified seaweed up to 0.8 kg per plant to the soil associated with chemical thinning with 600 mg L-1 of Ethephon favored the production and fruit quality of Ponkan mandarin trees.
