Abstract: The ceramic fibers have a wide range of applications expanded with the advent of nanotechnology. The technological development of ceramic fibers turned to the study and the production of nanoscale and submicron fibers, because of their wide range of industrial applications. Among the ceramic oxides, mullite microfibers have been highlighted due to its excellent physical, chemical and mechanical properties, especially at elevated temperatures. Thus, this article is intended to focus on the general characteristics of the ceramic fibers and the state of the art of producing nano and submicron mullite fibers.
