Abstract: | Lippia filifolia Mart. & Shauer belongs to the Verbenaceae family and is endemic to the Cerrado biome. This species has medicinal potential due to the production of volatile compounds that constitute its essential oil. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of light quality using light emitting diodes (LEDs) on the in vitro growth and development of L. filifolia and on the production of volatile compounds. Four treatments were developed according to the wavelength of the white (control), blue, red and red/blue combination of LEDs. After 45 days, biometric and biochemical parameters were analyzed. The quality of light influenced on seedling growth and metabolism. The seedlings showed higher heights under red and white light and greater accumulation of biomass, shoots and internodes under the combination of red/blue LEDs. The highest total carbohydrate content was observed in the combination of red/blue LEDs, while the white light provided a higher content of photosynthetic pigments. There was little influence of the quality of light on the composition of the essential oil, in which the concentration of the major compound was not changed. Eucalyptol, with high economic value, was the compound with the highest concentration in the essential oil of in vitro L. filifolia. |
