Implantação do herbário do curso de ciências naturais de Codó Prof. Deusiano Bandeira de Almeida (HENAC) – relato de caso

Abstract

Scientific collections supply didactic material to teach natural sciences and are of great importance in the academic world. Among them are botanical collections that, in addition to potentiating the teaching and training of students, are bona-fide repositories of vegetal samples provided by scientific research. This work addresses the implementation of an herbarium at the Federal University of Maranhão, Codó campus, which occurred during the development of a project approved in the Edital Universal FAPEMA/2014. And thus was born the Herbarium of the Course of Natural Sciences – Prof. Deusiano Bandeira – HENAC. It has 439 exsicatas representing 188 species, including new records of Passifloraceae and Orchidaceae for the state of MA. Besides being a bona-fide repository of the botanical samples collected in that state, the Henac Herbarium supports the teaching activities within the graduation course in Natural Sciences.
