Abstract: The objective of this article was analyzed as it configures the field of publications on public sphere. The research was developed as a bibliometric study through the Web of Science database. In summary, the study shows that the field of publications in the public sphere is interdisciplinary, broad and still growing, especially since the 1990s. It was found that besides the author of the most cited article, the philosopher Jürgen Habermas appears as a main bibliographical reference of the field, even with a diversity of criticisms. As relevant on the intellectual basis still appears Fraser (1992) and Calhoun (1992). The results of this work may guide and support new theoretical discussions and empirical researches, including those on economic, social and political processes in Brazilian courses – and contribute to the research fields of public administration and social management.
